Moderation Layers Implemented In Your Communities

The moderation system inside Goin’ is built around three layers, working together.

1. Automated detection

Software continuously monitors activity across the platform to detect inappropriate use of:

  • language (multilingual text moderation)
  • images, video, and audio
  • links, QR codes, and other external content

Content that violates platform rules can be flagged, hidden, or removed automatically — limiting exposure before harm spreads.

2. Student-led reporting

Students can report behaviour directly from the app, via in-app chat, or through support channels.

Reports trigger automatic actions and are queued for review, ensuring concerns are acted on quickly, without requiring staff to monitor conversations themselves.

3. Human moderation and decision-making

A dedicated moderation team reviews all flagged and reported content.

They assess context, severity, and intent, and apply appropriate actions when software alone cannot decide:

  • marking content as reviewed
  • removing messages
  • issuing warnings
  • applying temporary or permanent bans

In serious cases, universities are informed and involved in next steps.

Privacy is not a feature. It’s a boundary

Moderation is designed to protect students without surveillance.

  • Private 1-on-1 conversations are not accessible by default
  • Moderation relies on reports and evidence provided by students when issues occur
  • Investigation only happens when necessary and proportionate
